The boat....
My friend Moriah was talking on her blog about the story of the boat. I LOVE this story and think of it often in my life. I've heard it a little differently than she but the premise is the same =).
There's going to be a flood and so a policeman is sent to a mans door to tell him that he needs to evacuate because the flood levels are rising. He says Thank you, but I'll be fine, the Lord will take care of me.
The water starts to rise and is beginning to flood the mans house and he gets on the roof. A boat comes by to rescue him and he says Thank you, but I'll be fine, the Lord will take care of me.
The water gets so high that the man is literally in the water with a little bit of roof to hang onto. A rescue helicopter comes by and they yell down that they are there to save him. He says Thank you, but I'll be fine, the Lord will take care of me.
The man dies and goes to heaven. When he met God he asked him why he didn't save him. God said, I tried to, I sent you a policeman, a boat and a helicopter!
I often think about this when I'm being spiritually lazy or just looking for a cop out. If we listen to what God is trying to tell us we'll know when we should get off of our lazy butts and get on that boat.
My boat this morning came in the form of an opening for a preschool. I absolutely love MUMPS, but I'm not certain that Dawson is being challenged there. Also, being an only child he needs more interaction with children other than 3 mornings a week. By the time we have all of the teachers workdays, holidays and so called "snow" days it just seems like he is never in school.
Lately we've had some real issues with his behavior and also with his social skills. I'm shocked to even be typing that Dawson is having social problems as outgoing as he is. But one of the ladys that teaches Children's Church recently told me that her husband noticed that Dawson has been much more reserved and stayed away from children lately. Now this morning his teacher told me that he walked in last week and said "I'm not talking to any kids today, only to you!".
Wow! What's going on? I know the puppies are an issue because he's not used to having to share the attention. But most of all I'm realizing that he is soooo incredibly social when it comes to adults because that's what he's around most of the time but when it comes to interacting with other children he's a fish out of water. He's with kids 3 mornings a week and a church on Sundays. Of course with Paula and Steph we have families that we do some things with that have boys his age, but all of that is just not enough for him.
So lately I've been praying about what to do about Dawsons school path. I kept feeling pulled toward a local Christian School, but Jeff didn't quite feel the same pull. So all of a sudden all of this information starts coming at me, from people even that I totally didn't expect. I'm finding that not only does the new public school that he would be going to have a bad reputation, but also that we don't even have a chance of D going to kindergarten at the Christian School if don't do something NOW because he'll ALREADY be too far behind those kids. They go by the ABecca program which is more advanced than the public school curriculum.
So, we're at a crossroads. Who on earth would think that we'd have to start worrying about Dawson being behind the learning curve WHEN HE'S FOUR YEARS OLD! So, Jeff and I have been talking about it and information kept coming in. We'd often get some positive info about public school which would set us back. It's not public school that we're disappointed with, but it's THIS PARTICULAR public school that we're unhappy with given that VA is a "no child left behind" state. I like the idea of a small christian school anyway so I called today. The lady told me that the k4 was full for the year, HOWEVER she'll have an opening February 1st which she said NEVER happens.
Answered prayer. I didn't pray for things to work out the way I WANT, I prayed that God would tell me what He has planned for Dawson. So, we're going tomorrow to talk to the school and see what we think and take it from there. I also didn't want D to go full days because he's such a young 4 and come to find out, the bulk if their learning is in the AM so he can go out there 5 half days. So, still wont be exhausted for such a young 4, yet will still get the bulk of the learing and more social interaction. I'm trying not to get too excited about this, but just wanted to share.

GIRL! Our lives are soooo much alike! Scary!! I love ya chicky! I am soooo glad God sent your boat too! Life is crazy...isn't it.
How he wants us to ask for the boat...and instead we just flip around in the see waiting and struggling when he can see that he just wants us to ASK! I'll be praying everything works out for you and his school.
Now...can we borrow 14,320 per year for Mason to go to Christian school. I am sure that Jeff could do a few side jobs and help us out...whatcha say?
Please........?
I said please?
Lol xoxo
Wow!!!!!!!!! Needless to say, if it was the same price here we wouldn't be able to even think about it. That's crazy! Thank you Moriah! You are so right.
Tammy, I love that story. I've used it several times myself to make a point.
I think you've already done the hard part...realizing that the boat is there for you. Hope the next week goes smoothly for you and Dawson.
Awesome. I am so glad this opened up for you and your little man!! Continued prayers.
