What do I want my son to remember?
When Dawson looks back on his young life, what will he remember?
Well, he will remember a mom wh0 fusses at him quite a bit (which I wish that I could change, but it is what it is). I just hope when he thinks back he remembers the hugs he got after getting in trouble more than actually getting in trouble in the first place.
I hope he remembers the time that mommy spent playing with him more than the mommy that's working on the computer. I hope that he remembers that he had a mommy who thought that the sun rises and sets on him. A mommy who busted her butt to get a business going to financially contribute to the family, while being able to stay home with him. I hope he knows how sad his mommy was for having to miss most of his soccer games (his first year) because she scheduled apts too far in advance. I hope that he's happy that mommy made every effort to be on every field trip possible.
Will he remember having a spotless house? Nope! It's clean but not always "neat". What I do hope he remembers is the time rather spent reading to him and playing with him, but also the time spent helping others. Not just people states away that are in peril, but friends and family who need a shoulder to cry on or some words of wisdom. That sometimes takes a little time away from him, but I hope that helps to weave him into the caring person that I hope that he will become. I hope that he "loves his neighbor as he loves himself", but finds a careful balance in doing that and spending most of his time with his family.
I hope he remembers time spent with family and friends who love him so much!
He'll for sure remember a daddy who loves him more than anything. A daddy that is home for dinner almost every night and most nights is found playing soccer outside with him or jumping on the trampoline. A daddy who in the rare occasion comes home late, but makes an effort to come home even earlier the next night to spend extra time with him. A daddy who is stern but is even more loving and who is forever giving him giant hugs and kisses. There is no question how much his daddy loves him.
There are days of constant bickering, that Dawson and I sometimes have, that I am so concerned that he'll look back on his childhood and remember that. I have to say though that the good days by far outweigh the bad days and that he should never have to question how much his mommy and daddy love him and how we'd do anything in the world for him.

this honestly made me cry...thank you. For making me feel better today, as a mommy who wishes all that for her child too... Loved it.
Just seeing this - thank you Moriah!
