Longing for rest

April bought me a book called "When Women Long for Rest". Love the book, thanks sissy! I recommend this book to anyone, great book! There is a passage in the book that really resonated with me today.

My trip to Mississippi to take portraits has fallen through because only 6 people signed up. I'm bummed, but I know that God has a plan and he's in charge. I have to admit though I've been wondering why God would let this thing cancel. Other members of the church were going to go and talk to folks and try to help encourage them, why on earth would God want that canceled? Then I read this passage in the book.......

"I realized recently that I'm busy because I do things for God (many of which He hasn't necessarily asked me to do), not because I'm just being with him. Yet God doesn't want me to just do things for Him. He wants me to be with Him. He wants the relationship. As I grow to love Him, I will want to serve Him. My work will flow from the worship. My labor for Him will stem from my love for Him. He knows that. So He wants us to work on the relationship first. Once the work takes priority in our lives, He knows the relationship will go downhill. And He's willing to do what it takes to keep that from happening. It's much harder to follow God's call if I'm running too fast to hear Him speak. And I'm realizing, as well, that when I slow down, I'm not missing anything. I'm actually putting myself in the place where I'll receive a lot more - much more than if I were running quickly to get all I was trying to get for myself" - Cindi McMenamin

That's why the trip was cancelled. Maybe I was getting too big for my britches, but for sure I had lost sight of God for trying to do good things for Him. Seems kind of crazy, but I get it! I believe that God wants me to slow down. He's given me hint after hint and I'm thinking that I need to do what I can to do that before He says enough's enough and brings my world to a screeching halt. Suffice it to say, He's got my attention!
